Baseball Recap: Aldine Wins Going Away Against Alief Elsik

Aldine waltzed into their game on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Alief Elsik Rams a 9-0 shutout. That nine run margin sets a new team best for the Mustangs this season.

Felix Melendez was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over five innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-low in earned runs (zero). He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Gabriel Nunez and Alfredo Martinez did most of the damage at the plate: Nunez scored two runs while going 1-for-2, while Martinez scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-3. That's the most runs Nunez has posted since back in April of 2024. Luis Abrego also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Aldine always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .586. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive matches.

Aldine's record now sits at 4-2. As for Alief Elsik, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Aldine will host Dekaney at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Aldine will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last. As for Alief Elsik, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Alief Hastings at 2:00 p.m.
