Softball Game Preview: Andrews Mustangs vs. Monahans Loboes

Andrews and Monahans are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2021, but likely not for long. The Mustangs will take on the Loboes at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Monahans took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Andrews, who comes in off a win.

Andrews barely beat Fort Stockton the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Mustangs blew past the Panthers 7-1 on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won 11 contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Kylie Gentile spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on two hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Olie Martinez was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run. Another player making a difference was Lauren Cordova, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4.

Martinez wasn't the only one making solid contact: Andrews kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April of 2024.

Meanwhile, Monahans didn't have quite enough to beat Seminole on Friday and fell 2-1.

Monahans' defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 15-8. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the losses came by an average of only 1.25 runs. As for Andrews, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 24-7 record this season.

Andrews skirted past Monahans 2-1 in their previous meeting two weeks ago. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
