Preview: Calvary Christian EAGLES vs. Heartland Christian Saints
Calvary Christian is 0-8 against Heartland Christian since January of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Calvary Christian EAGLES will be staying on the road to face off against the Heartland Christian Saints at 7:15 p.m. on December 1st. Calvary Christian will be strutting in after a win while Heartland Christian will be coming in after a defeat.
Last Saturday, Calvary Christian faced Suburban Christian in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Calvary Christian came out on top in a nail-biter against Suburban Christian and snuck past 58-56. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Calvary Christian's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Josiah Obando led the charge by dropping a double-double on 15 points and 18 rebounds. The match was Obando's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Braeden Pero, who scored 22 points.
Meanwhile, Heartland Christian came up short against Anderson HomeSchool on Monday and fell 60-50. Heartland Christian has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Landon Clemens, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 14 rebounds. The matchup was his sixth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Reagan Clemens, who scored 11 points.
The losses dropped Calvary Christian to 6-3 and Suburban Christian to 2-2.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Calvary Christian have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 30.2 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Heartland Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging 28.5 per game. Calvary Christian couldn't quite finish off Heartland Christian in their previous meeting back in February and fell 50-48. Can Calvary Christian avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
