Baseball Game Preview: Blair Bears vs. Waverly Vikings

Blair is 1-9 against Waverly since March of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Bears will square off against the Vikings at 4:30 p.m. Blair has given up an average of 7.6 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Blair is headed into Thursday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their sixth straight game dating back to last season on Tuesday. They came up short against Gross Catholic, falling 16-6. On the bright side, the six- run performance marked the Bears' highest-scoring matchup to date.

Nelson Kosch made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. Carter Saylor also deserves some recognition as he scored his first runs of the season.

Meanwhile, Waverly faced Elkhorn in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Vikings put the hurt on the Antlers with a sharp 13-3 victory. The Vikings might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three games by ten runs or more this season.

Hunter Thoms was a standout: he scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. He has become a key player for Waverly: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-3 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Drew Koch, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.

Waverly always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .562. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Waverly is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Blair, their loss dropped their record down to 0-5.
