Softball Game Preview: Thoreau Hawks vs. Tohatchi Cougars

For the first time this season, Thoreau will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will head out to face off against the Tohatchi Cougars at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Thoreau has given up an average of 18.8 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

While Thoreau's victory against Northwest wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Hawks sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 13-11 win over the Falcons on Thursday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Hawks.

Meanwhile, Tohatchi hadn't done well against Lordsburg recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Cougars were the clear victors by a 12-6 margin over the Mavericks. Considering the Cougars' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Tohatchi's victory bumped their record up to 4-5. As for Thoreau, their win bumped their record up to 3-5.

Thoreau came out on top in a nail-biter against Tohatchi in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, sneaking past 16-15. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hawks since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
