Recap: Jarrell Cougars vs. Lago Vista Vikings

There's no place like home for the Jarrell Cougars, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Tuesday. They strolled past Lago Vista with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 51-35. Given Jarrell's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 399th, while Lago Vista is ranked 826th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Jarrell found their leader in underclassman Aniya Taylor, who scored 22 points along with three steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Taylor has scored at least a third of Jarrell's points. Another player making a difference was Jasmine Benavidez, who scored seven points along with seven rebounds and five steals.

Lago Vista's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Saylor Stamos, who scored 11 points along with two steals and two blocks, and Eliana Helton who scored eight points along with six rebounds.

Jarrell is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 17-10 record this season. As for Lago Vista, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 10-15.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Jarrell will take on Burnet at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Burnet is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last three games. As for Lago Vista, they will head out on the road to square off against Marble Falls at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
