Basketball Recap: Jaden Wang's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Claremont over St. Genevieve

If Claremont was riding high fresh off their 68-42 takedown of Montebello last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Claremont Wolfpack fell 75-68 to the St. Genevieve Valiants on Monday.

Claremont's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jaden Wang, who posted 22 points and five rebounds. Those 22 points gave Wang a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Tyler Zitar, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds.

Even though they lost, Claremont smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in four consecutive contests.

Claremont's loss dropped their record down to 9-7. As for St. Genevieve, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-9.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Claremont will look to take advantage of their home court for the first time this season as they take on Diamond Ranch at 6:30 p.m. on January 6, 2025. Claremont has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 191 points over their last three games. As for St. Genevieve, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Valley Torah at 6:00 p.m.
