Baseball Recap: Sunrise Mountain Has No Trouble Against Kellis

While Sunrise Mountain put up plenty of runs on Wednesday, the same can't be said for Kellis. The Mustangs blew past the Cougars 17-0. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 21-0 on April 2nd.

Brandon Newkirk and Logan Guilford did most of the damage at the plate: Newkirk went 3-for-4 with three runs, one double, and one RBI, while Guilford went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs and two RBI. Newkirk has become a key player for Sunrise Mountain: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 9-10 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Chase Heid, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.

Sunrise Mountain always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .595. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Sunrise Mountain is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-10 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Kellis, they are on a 14-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-18.
