Baseball Recap: Vandalia Christian Comes Up Short

After flying high against Asheboro Hybrid Academy on Thursday, Vandalia Christian came back down to earth. The Vikings fell 10-6 to the Union Grove Christian Patriots on Saturday. The Vikings were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Patriots earlier this season, when they won 17-16.

Nate Collins was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. He is becoming a predictor of Vandalia Christian's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 6-1 (and 3-4 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Jacob Baynes made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last six games he's played.

Vandalia Christian's record now sits at 9-5. As for Union Grove Christian, they have been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season.

Vandalia Christian will take on Alamance Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Union Grove Christian, they will challenge Liberty Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Union Grove Christian is facing Liberty Christian at the right time seeing as Liberty Christian is stuck on an 11-game losing streak.
