Baseball Recap: Monroe Township Turns Things Around After Road Loss

Monroe Township's found some homefield redemption this week after a overtime loss to Sayreville on Thursday. The Falcons came out on top against the Metuchen Bulldogs by a score of 7-2. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Falcons also won the last time the pair played back in May of 2024.

Braeden Hoiberg and Ben Faigin made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Hoiberg pitched 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits. Meanwhile, Faigin tossed 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Monroe Township is undefeated when Faigin allows one or fewer hits, but 5-10 otherwise. At bat, Hoiberg went 2-for-3 with two RBI, while Faigin went 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That's the most hits Faigin has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Justin Mangano and Ryan Olmo did most of the damage at the plate: Mangano got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs, while Olmo went 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Mangano is becoming a predictor of Monroe Township's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-1 (and 4-9 when he doesn't).

Monroe Township's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-10. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.7 runs over those games. As for Metuchen, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 15-6.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Monroe Township will square off against Toms River South at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Metuchen, they will challenge Linden at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
