Football Game Preview: Waverly Wolverines vs. Maine-Endwell Spartans

Waverly hasn't had much luck against Maine-Endwell recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Wolverines will welcome the Spartans at 7:00 p.m. Waverly will come into the contest with an undefeated record on the line.

Waverly proved they can win big last Friday (they won by 42) and on Saturday they proved they can win the close ones too. They pulled ahead with a 21-20 photo finish over Union-Endicott. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Wolverines' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' New York football rankings (they are ranked 24th, while the Tigers are ranked 86th).

The critical scores for Waverly came from Daltton Davis, Ben Shaw, and Cooper Robinson.

Waverly didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Chase Wheeler and Justin Koenig.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Maine-Endwell). They had just enough and edged out Vestal 30-27. The Spartans haven't had any issues with the Golden Bears recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.

The victory got Maine-Endwell back to even at 2-2. As for Waverly, their win bumped their record up to 5-0.

Waverly and Maine-Endwell were neck-and-neck in their previous matchup back in September of 2024, but Waverly came up empty-handed after a 42-41 loss.
