Softball Recap: Stafford Wins Going Away Against La Marque

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Sealy, Stafford was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They blew past the La Marque Cougars 16-1. With that victory, the Spartans brought their scoring average up to 6.7 runs per game.

Jovaughna Mendez made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Mendez was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Noehli Torres, who scored four runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Kaelyn Whitaker, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Stafford hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are 4-1 when they post two or more strikeouts.

Stafford now has a winning record of 7-6-1. As for La Marque, they have been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 11 matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-12 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Stafford is set to challenge their familiar foe Almeta Crawford at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, La Marque will face off against rival Fort Bend Willowridge at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
