Baseball Game Preview: Lakeland Chiefs vs. Tunkhannock Tigers

The Lakeland Chiefs will face off against the Tunkhannock Tigers at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Lakeland hasn't scored more than two runs for five games straight, a trend the squad is eager to reverse.

On Monday, Lakeland needed a bit of extra time to put away Western Wayne. They had just enough and edged out the Wildcats 2-1. The win was some much needed relief for the Chiefs as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.

Justin King looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Lakeland is 4-1 when King allows one or fewer hits, but 2-12 otherwise.

At the plate, Lakeland's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Dylan Loomis, who went 2-for-3 with one run. Those two hits gave Loomis a new career-high.

Meanwhile, Tunkhannock can bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Monday. They walked away with an 8-3 win over Hanover Area.

Tunkhannock also got a great performance from Paul Poepperling as he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Poepperling has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Hunter Gilroy, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Ethan Dominick was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Tunkhannock was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hanover Area only posted a batting average of .207.

Lakeland's victory bumped their record up to 6-13. As for Tunkhannock, their win bumped their record up to 2-17.
