Basketball Recap: International Community Takes a Loss

International Community was the 68-34 winner over Lake Mary Prep when they last played one another back in February of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The International Community Comets were just a bucket shy of victory on Monday and fell 53-52 to the Lake Mary Prep Griffins. The Comets have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Several Comets players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Paxton Boaz, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds. The game was Boaz's eighth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Jace Grover, who went 5 of 8 en route to 17 points.

Lake Mary Prep got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jake Caporaso out in front who went 5 of 8 on his way to 12 points and six rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Caporaso a new career-high in assists (three). Another player making a difference was Julian Soto, who posted nine points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals.

International Community's defeat dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Lake Mary Prep, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-2.

International Community wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 58-51 loss against Lyman on the 10th. As for Lake Mary Prep, they will challenge Holy Cross Lutheran Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Lake Mary Prep is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 57.2 points per game this season.
