Basketball Game Preview: Layton Christian Academy Eagles vs. Timpview Thunderbirds

It'll be Battle of the Birds when the Layton Christian Academy Eagles face off against the Timpview Thunderbirds at 7:00 p.m. on Friday... Keep an eye on the score for this one: both posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Layton Christian Academy took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Saturday. They came out on top against Viewmont by a score of 67-55.

Layton Christian Academy's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tyrin Jones, who went 7 of 9 on his way to 15 points and five boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Omar Mowafak, who went 5 of 9 en route to 12 points and six rebounds.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Timpview). They blew past Kahuku 72-33 on Friday. Winning may never get old, but the Thunderbirds sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Timpview pushed their record up to 3-1 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.3 points per game. As for Layton Christian Academy, the victory got them back to even at 2-2.

Layton Christian Academy was dealt a bruising 84-37 defeat at the hands of Timpview when the teams last played back in December of 2020. Thankfully for Layton Christian Academy, Jake Wahlin (who went 8 of 14 en route to 20 points, to go along with five boards and four steals) won't be suiting up this time.
