Baseball Recap: St. James Comes Up Short

St. James and White Knoll squared off in some playoff action on Monday, but St. James had to settle for second. They took an 11-8 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Timberwolves. That's two games in a row now that the Sharks have lost by exactly three runs.

St. James got a good showing from Frank Pepe, who didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. What's more, Pepe gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in April.

At the plate, Spencer Doyle made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season. Josh Harnish was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

St. James has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-14 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.3 runs over those games. As for White Knoll, their win ended a ten-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-20.

While St. James had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
