Softball Game Preview: Bay Springs Bulldogs vs. Loyd Star Hornets

For the second straight game, Bay Springs will face off against Loyd Star. The Bulldogs will face off against the Hornets at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Bay Springs heads in on the heels of a playoff game on Wednesday. They fell just short of Loyd Star by a score of 6-4.

For Loyd Star's part, Layla Burt spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on two hits and racked up 12 Ks. Burt has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 15 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Loyd Star's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Maddie Kate Britt, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI. Another was Kaylin Hester, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

Loyd Star has been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 13 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Bay Springs, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last eight matchups. That lines up perfectly with their 4-12 record this season.
