Baseball Game Preview: Watseka Warriors vs. St. Thomas More Sabers

The Watseka Warriors will head out on the road to square off against the St. Thomas More Sabers at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Watseka is looking for their season's first win.

Watseka lost 12-5 to Paxton-Buckley-Loda on Tuesday.

Watseka got a good showing from Ethan Essington, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Essington has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Tyler Waugh was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2. Lucas Shoemaker also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Meanwhile, St. Thomas More came up short against Pontiac on Monday, falling 9-2. The loss continues a trend for the Sabers in their meetings with the Indians: they've now lost six in a row.

Watseka's defeat dropped their record down to 0-6. As for St. Thomas More, their loss dropped their record down to 3-8.

Watseka skirted past St. Thomas More 11-9 in their previous meeting back in May of 2019. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Warriors since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
