Baseball Game Preview: Northtown Pumas vs. Steinmetz College Prep Silver Streaks

The Northtown Pumas will venture away from home to square off against the Steinmetz College Prep Silver Streaks at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Northtown has given up an average of 13.6 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Northtown came into their game on Wednesday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against Walther Christian Academy, falling 12-1. The Pumas haven't had much luck with the Broncos recently, as the team has come up short the last seven times they've met.

Gabriel Velez was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Aiden Ortiz also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Meanwhile, Steinmetz College Prep won against Bogan on Wednesday with 15 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Thursday. The Silver Streaks blew past North Grand 15-8.

Elias Flores made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and three runs. Steinmetz College Prep is 3-1 when Flores posts two or more stolen bases, but 4-20 otherwise.

In other batting news, Karol Nowak was incredible, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Luis Jose Batista Taveras was another key player, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Steinmetz College Prep's record now sits at 7-21. As for Northtown, their loss dropped their record down to 2-12.
