Baseball Recap: Holmes County Triumphs

Holmes County won the last time they faced Port St. Joe and things went their way on Monday too. The Blue Devils walked away with a 6-2 win over the Tiger Sharks. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Blue Devils.

Kopper Nelson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on three hits and racked up 13 Ks. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Holmes County is 2-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 2-3 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Holmes County's victory was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Cy McGowan, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI. That RBI marked the first that McGowan has brought in this season.

The win got Holmes County back to even at 4-4. As for Port St. Joe, their defeat ended an eight-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 6-3.

Coming up, Holmes County will head out on the road to square off against Cottondale at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Port St. Joe, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Taylor County at 6:30 p.m.
