League recap: Siuslaw extends winning streak with victory over South Umpqua

Siuslaw extended the longest winning streak in 4A Far West this week by beating South Umpqua, 48-18. The victory was the fourth in a row for the team.

Brookings-Harbor made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 7,956 from 9,361. The improvement came about via a 41-23 victory over Sutherlin last week.

Douglas's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Jordan Shaffer threw for 179 and two touchdowns and Nate Vosika had 99 yards receiving. On the ground Vosika chipped in 43 yards. Bryce Watson helped Douglas' passing attack out by catching three balls for 38 yards.

Douglas' offense has been unstoppable this season and the Trojans feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Shaffer has thrown for 958 yards and eight touchdowns this season, while Riley Lavin has 26 catches for 344 yards. Vosika leads the league in rushing with 283 yards.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when Siuslaw takes on the Bulldogs. Tim Dodson's team is currently in first, while Sutherlin is in fifth.
