Baseball Game Preview: Kennedy Fighting Irish vs. Montclair Cavaliers

The Kennedy Fighting Irish will take on the Montclair Cavaliers in a tournament on Saturday. Neither of those teams managed to put together many runs in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.

Kennedy is headed into Saturday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Friday. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-1 heartbreaker at the hands of Costa Mesa.

Tyler Onofre spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on six hits and racked up 11 Ks. He is becoming a predictor of Kennedy's success: when he posts at least eight strikeouts the team is 2-1 (and 4-5 when he doesn't).

Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for Montclair's offense. They lost 11-0 to Ontario on Friday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last six times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Kennedy's defeat dropped their record down to 6-6. As for Montclair, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-5 record this season.

Kennedy skirted past Montclair 2-1 when the teams last played back in March of 2019. Will Kennedy repeat their success, or does Montclair has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
