Basketball Game Preview: Weed Cougars vs. Middletown Mustangs

The Weed Cougars will venture away from home to face off against the Middletown Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Weed knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 18 matchups -- so hopefully Middletown likes a good challenge.

Weed is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They enjoyed a cozy 73-54 victory over Portola. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 273rd, while the Tigers are ranked 612th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Middletown beat Windsor 55-50 on Saturday.

Middletown's win came from a few key players Weed will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Anthony Bowerman, who dropped a double-double with 17 points and ten rebounds. That's the most points he has posted since back in December of 2024. Bodhi Moore was another key player, putting up 16 points and seven boards.

Middletown was working as a unit and finished the game with ten assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive contests.

Weed's record is now 24-6. As for Middletown, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 24-7 record this season.
