Baseball Game Preview: Skyline Falcons vs. Montbello Warriors

The Skyline Falcons are taking a road trip to face off against the Montbello Warriors at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Montbello took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Skyline, who comes in off a win.

Skyline took a nine-run defeat the last time they faced off against Mead, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Falcons skirted past the Mavericks 3-2. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Falcons as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Jack Knapp spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on two hits and racked up eight Ks. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Skyline is 4-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 0-6 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Skyline saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was JD Wright, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base. John Haley also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Meanwhile, Montbello was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They fell 9-5 to Denver East.

Saul Renteria-Aguirre was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two RBI. Derek Alvidrez was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Montbello's defeat dropped their record down to 4-8. As for Skyline, their win bumped their record up to 4-7.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Skyline has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Montbello struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.3 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
