Preview: Omaha South Packers vs. Gretna Dragons
The Omaha South Packers and the Gretna Dragons will face off at 7:15 p.m. on December 19th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the pair posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
The third road matchup was the charm for Omaha South, as they earned their first road win of the season. They claimed a resounding 72-38 win over Buena Vista on the road. That 72-38 margin sets a new team best for Omaha South this season.
Omaha South's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Keegan Kimble, who scored 19 points along with six steals and five rebounds, and Lou Hodoly, who scored 27 points along with seven rebounds. Those seven rebounds set a new season-high mark for him. Ramon Ware was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with seven assists and four steals.
Meanwhile, Gretna waltzed into their match Saturday with two straight wins but they left with three. The stars were shining brightly for them in a 81-65 victory over Millard West. 81 seems to be a good number for Gretna as the team scooped up a win with the same number of points in their previous game.
It was another big night for Alex Wilcoxson, who scored 18 points along with six assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Joey Vieth, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds.
The victory got Omaha South back to even at 2-2. As for Gretna, their win bumped their record up to 5-1.
Keep an eye on the arc in Tuesday's game: Omaha South have made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having only averaged 4.2 threes per game. It's a different story for Gretna, though, as they've been averaging only 7.5 threes per game. Given Omaha South's sizeable advantage in that area, Gretna will need to find a way to close that gap.
Omaha South came up short against Gretna when the teams last played back in January of 2022, falling 51-45. Can Omaha South avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
