Basketball Game Preview: West Springfield Spartans vs. Lake Braddock Bruins

The West Springfield Spartans will challenge the Lake Braddock Bruins at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

West Springfield is headed into the matchup out to prove that what happened against West Potomac on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. West Springfield took a blow against West Potomac, falling 67-27. The Spartans were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 45-16.

Meanwhile, Lake Braddock was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 14th straight loss. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 56-31 to South County, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. While losing is never fun, the Bruins can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 268th, while the Stallions are ranked 29th).

Lake Braddock's defeat dropped their record down to 1-16. As for West Springfield, their loss dropped their record down to 7-7.

West Springfield couldn't quite finish off Lake Braddock in their previous meeting back in January of 2024 and fell 37-34. Can West Springfield avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
