Recap: Giltner Hornets vs. Shelton Bulldogs
The Giltner Hornets suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Tuesday. They had to suffer through a rough 84-41 loss at the hands of Shelton. While losing is never fun, Giltner can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 210th, while Shelton is ranked 37th).
Several Hornets players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Cooper Reeson, who scored 13 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Reeson has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Phillip Kreutz, who scored nine points.
Giltner struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Ashton Simmons continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Shelton, scoring 36 points along with six rebounds and two steals. Simmons is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last five games he's played. Gerardo Romero was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with five steals.
This is the second loss in a row for Giltner and nudges their season record down to 5-5. As for Shelton, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 13-0.
Giltner will head out on the road to challenge Twin River on Friday. As for Shelton, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Wood River at 7:30 p.m. Wood River is looking to tack on another W to their four-game streak on the road.
