Baseball Recap: Catholic Central Comes Up Short

Catholic Central extended their losing streak to six on Monday, dropping their season record down to 3-6 in the process. They lost 17-2 to the Cedarville Indians. If the Irish were looking for revenge after losing 7-1 to the Indians when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Catholic Central saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Berkeley Little, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double. Ben Thomas also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

As for Cedarville, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games.

On Cedarville's side, Wyatt Percival and Zach Creeden made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Percival tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Creeden pitched four innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. At bat, Percival got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two RBI and one run, while Creeden went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Those three hits gave Creeden a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Tavin Baldwin, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Jacob Lide was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

While Catholic Central had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
