Ryan Balent was a major factor in South Plainfield's victory over Summit on Wednesday. Balent turned in his biggest game of the season, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

Coming up, Balent and South Plainfield will square off against Monroe Township at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Balent had to take a loss the last time the two teams duked it out, losing their contest last Tuesday 6-4.
