Sunnyvale has gone a perfect 5-0 against Wills Point recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. Sunnyvale will be playing in front of their home fans against Wills Point at 7:00 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.
Wills Point will square off against a team with plenty of momentum: Sunnyvale extended their winning streak to three on Thursday. Sunnyvale blew past Ford 58-21. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 37-7.
Cayson Maupin was his usual excellent self, throwing for 227 yards and three touchdowns while completing 77.8% of his passes, and also punching in one score on the ground. Jaden Cross helped Maupin out on the ground, rushing for 60 yards and one TD, while also picking up 55 receiving yards.
Meanwhile, after only seven points in their last game, Wills Point made sure to put some points up on the board against Kemp on Thursday. The Tigers breezed past the Yellowjackets to the tune of 36-7. Considering the Tigers have won three contests by more than 27 points this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Sunnyvale better keep an eye on TANNER MADDOX. He was instrumental in Wills Point's win, rushing for 87 yards and three touchdowns on only ten carries, while also throwing for 140 yards and one TD. Those 87 rushing yards gave MADDOX a new career-high. Another player making a difference was LANDON HAMILTON, who rushed for 90 yards and one score on only seven carries.
Wills Point's run defense was locked in: Kemp could only muster one yards per carry. The team can thank REESE PETERSON for the heroic effort on defense: he. Wills Point didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 9.7.
Wills Point's defense didn't let Nathan Dunn, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for five sacks. The heavy lifting was done by PETERSON and JUSTIN BROOKS, who racked up four sacks between them.
Sunnyvale's win bumped their record up to 7-1. As for Wills Point, their victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 3-5.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Sunnyvale has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 153.4 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Wills Point struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 168 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
