Basketball Recap: Newton-Conover Snaps Six-Game Streak of Wins at Home

Newton-Conover entered their contest against Maiden on Tuesday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Newton-Conover Red Devils fell 61-50 to the Maiden Blue Devils. If the Red Devils were looking for revenge after losing 51-27 to them when the teams met, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Newton-Conover's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sara Sain, who posted six points in addition to 14 rebounds and four steals. Sain has been hot recently, having posted four or more steals the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Jenna Sain, who scored eight points and ten boards.

Even though they lost, Newton-Conover smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 17 consecutive games dating back to last season.

Maiden's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Willow Bass led the charge by putting up 13 points. Raegan Rembert was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on 17 points and nine rebounds.

Newton-Conover's loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-3. As for Maiden, they pushed their record up to 15-2 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road.

Newton-Conover will welcome West Caldwell at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Newton-Conover is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59.5 points per game this season. As for Maiden, they are taking a road trip to take on East Burke at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Maiden knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past five matchups -- so hopefully East Burke likes a good challenge.
