Baseball Recap: Rialto Extends Winning Streak to Five

Rialto extended their winning streak to five on Friday, bumping their season record up to 11-3 in the process. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Colton Yellowjackets a 4-0 shutout. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 2-1 on Wednesday.

Alex Valadez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out eight over 6.1 innings pitched. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Hugo Sanchez was excellent, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one RBI.

As for Colton, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-12. Those defeats can't be blamed on the team's pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 6 runs in those games.

On Colton's side, Jason Alvarado was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched. That one hit allowed gave Alvarado a new career-low.

At the plate, Kyle Mejia was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases.

Coming up, Rialto will head out on the road to take on Kaiser at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. The Cats' pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so the Knights' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Colton, they will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against San Gorgonio at 3:45 p.m. The Yellowjackets are facing the Spartans at the right time seeing as the Spartans are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
