Softball Recap: Broad Run Spartans vs. Woodgrove Wolverines

Broad Run extended their losing streak to five on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 7-8 in the process. They came up short against the Woodgrove Wolverines, falling 7-1. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wolverines this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 4-1 on Tuesday.

Anna Weltens put in work no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and four unearned) runs off nine hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one home run.

As for Woodgrove, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 11-3. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matches by six runs or more this season.

On Woodgrove's side, Virginia Dowell spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits.

On the hitting side, Abbey Davis was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. The team also got some help courtesy of Addie McCullers, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Broad Run will welcome Freedom at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Woodgrove, they will challenge Heritage at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
