Softball Game Preview: Admiral Farragut BlueJackets vs. Academy at the Lakes Wildcats

Admiral Farragut is 1-9 against Academy at the Lakes since February of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The BlueJackets will take on the Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. Admiral Farragut has given up an average of 17.9 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Admiral Farragut is headed into Thursday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their ninth straight game dating back to last season on Wednesday. They lost 16-1 to Clearwater Central Catholic.

Admiral Farragut saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brooke McCarthy, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one double. Liberty McPherson also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Academy at the Lakes duked it out with Foundation Christian Academy two weeks ago. The Wildcats came out on top against the Panthers by a score of 6-2. The victory continues a trend for the Wildcats in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won five in a row.

Elizabeth Budine made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out nine over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kiana Wright, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Ella Picard, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-3.

Admiral Farragut's loss dropped their record down to 0-8. As for Academy at the Lakes, their record is now 4-6.

Admiral Farragut suffered a grim 12-6 defeat to Academy at the Lakes in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Can the BlueJackets avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
