Newton County has gone 3-0 against Leake Central recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Newton County Cougars will head out to face off against the Leake Central Gators at 5:30 p.m. Considering both teams were shutout in their prior games, the pair is probably coming into this one with something to prove.

Newton County fell victim to West Lauderdale and their airtight defense on Tuesday. They came up short against the Knights, falling 7-0. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi soccer rankings (they are ranked 49th, while the Knights are ranked eighth).

Meanwhile, Leake Central was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They lost 7-0 to Choctaw Central. That's two games in a row now that the Gators have lost by exactly seven goals.

This is the second loss in a row for Newton County and nudges their season record down to 6-11-2. As for Leake Central, their loss dropped their record down to 3-7.

Everything went Newton County's way against Leake Central in their previous matchup back in December of 2024, as Newton County made off with a 5-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Newton County since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
