Baseball Game Preview: Depew Wildcats vs. Pioneer Panthers

Depew is 8-2 against Pioneer since April of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Wildcats will take on the Panthers at 5:00 p.m. Depew is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.

Depew can't be too worried about heading out to take on Pioneer: they just beat Maryvale at home, who had been dominant on their own field up to that point. The Wildcats sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-7 win over the Flyers on Wednesday. The victory was some much needed relief for the Wildcats as it spelled an end to their five-game losing streak.

Depew let Jacob Scibetta and Tyler Fryling run wild. Scibetta went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Fryling went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one triple. That's the most RBI Fryling has posted since back in April. Daniel Reese also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

Meanwhile, Pioneer hadn't done well against Iroquois recently (they were 1-7-1 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Panthers put the hurt on the Redhawks with a sharp 7-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won four games by six runs or more so far this season.

The victory got Pioneer back to even at 6-6. As for Depew, they now have a winning record of 9-8.

Depew was able to grind out a solid win over Pioneer in their previous matchup back in May of 2023, winning 3-0. Do the Wildcats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Panthers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
