Basketball Game Preview: Needville Bluejays vs. La Marque Cougars

Needville hasn't had much luck against La Marque recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Needville Bluejays will venture away from home to face off against the La Marque Cougars at 7:00 p.m. Needville is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50 points per game this season.

On Tuesday, Needville didn't have quite enough to beat El Campo and fell 46-43. The Bluejays have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Jaydon Ortiz, who went 5 for 12 on his way to 11 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ralphie Ortiz, who posted eight points and nine rebounds.

Meanwhile, La Marque put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. They put the hurt on Wharton with a sharp 54-31 victory. The Cougars have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 12 matchups by 22 points or more this season.

La Marque pushed their record up to 19-0 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 21 points. As for Needville, their loss dropped their record down to 5-8.

Needville barely slipped by La Marque in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, winning 54-53. The rematch might be a little tougher for Needville since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
