Volleyball Game Preview: Maloney Spartans vs. Newington Nor'easters

The Maloney Spartans will face off against the Newington Nor'easters at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Maloney comes in on six and Newington on five.

Maloney is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Connecticut's top teams: New Britain, who was ranked 15th at the time (Maloney was ranked second). The Spartans put the hurt on the Golden Hurricanes with a sharp 3-0 victory on Tuesday.

Maloney was especially dominant in the third set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-17, 25-21, 25-11.

Abdiel Cividanes was the offensive standout of the contest as he had 12 digs and two aces. That's the most digs he has posted over his last seven games. Derek Morgan also deserves some recognition as he had his first block of the season.

Newington had won four straight home games and Adam Redman did his part to make it five on Tuesday. The Nor'easters walked away with a 3-1 win over Hall with plenty of help from Redman, who had 13 digs and one assist. He is on a roll when it comes to digs, as he's now had 13 or more in each of the last three games he's played.

Newington walked away with the victory (and looked especially good in the fourth set). The final score came out to 25-20, 26-28, 26-24, 25-15.

Newington's win bumped their record up to 17-4. As for Maloney, their victory bumped their record up to 19-1.

Everything went Maloney's way against Newington when the teams last played on May 7th, as Maloney made off with a 3-0 win. Do the Spartans have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Nor'easters turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
