Basketball Recap: Victor Zepeda's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Alamosa over Monte Vista

Alamosa was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 11th straight defeat. They took a 59-44 bruising from the Monte Vista Pirates. The Mean Moose were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Pirates apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2021.

Alamosa lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Victor Zepeda, who posted 19 points and three steals. That was a full 43.2% of Alamosa's points, marking the third time in a row Zepeda has had more than a third of the team's points. Jaidyn Burciaga was another key player, putting up nine points.

Monte Vista was led to victory by Azariah Hurtado and Darrien Archuleta. Hurtado dropped a double-double with 23 points and 11 boards, while Archuleta went 5-for-10 to rack up 14 points and six rebounds. Thanks to that strong game, Archuleta now owns an excellent 42.3% three-point shooting accuracy. Another player making a difference was Kaden Madrid, who scored eight points and six rebounds.

Alamosa's defeat dropped their record down to 2-15. As for Monte Vista, their record is now 9-6.

Alamosa has already played their next contest, a 63-57 loss against Bayfield on the 7th. As for Monte Vista, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 50-29 defeat against Sanford on the 6th.
