Football Recap: Palmer Ridge Starts Season with Win Against Ponderosa

Palmer Ridge took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Friday. They claimed a resounding 42-14 win over the Ponderosa Mustangs. The contest was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Bears had established a 21-point advantage.

Jackson Mabe was nothing short of spectacular: he rushed for 189 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 9.5 yards per carry. Those 189 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. Zak Crisler also helped out with an impressive 86 receiving yards.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Palmer Ridge was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 299 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ponderosa only rushed for 62 rushing yards.

Despite the loss, Ponderosa still got an impressive performance from Colter Espinoza, who threw for 263 yards and one TD while completing 77.3% of his passes, and also rushed for 52 yards and one score.

Looking ahead, Palmer Ridge is headed away from home for the first time to take on Doherty at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Ponderosa, they will host Rampart at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
