Baseball Game Preview: East Carteret Mariners vs. Havelock Rams

The East Carteret Mariners will head out on the road to face off against the Havelock Rams at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (East Carteret has 19 straight wins, Havelock has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

East Carteret had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt New Bern Christian Academy on Monday. The Mariners' pitchers stepped up to hand New Bern Christian Academy a 10-0 shutout. The Mariners might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 games by six runs or more this season.

Tanner Wade made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in ten consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.

In other batting news, Jonathan Piner was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in February of 2024. Jacob Grimm was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.

East Carteret always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as New Bern Christian Academy only posted an OBP of .211.

Meanwhile, Havelock came up short against D.H. Conley on Tuesday, falling 11-1.

Havelock's loss dropped their record down to 4-11. As for East Carteret, their victory was their tenth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-0.
