Softball Game Preview: East Wake Academy Eagles vs. Falls Lake Firebirds

East Wake Academy hasn't had much luck against Falls Lake recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Eagles will challenge the Firebirds at 4:30 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

East Wake Academy is headed into Monday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Wednesday. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 6-5 heartbreaker at the hands of Rolesville.

Meanwhile, Falls Lake started off well but failed to capitalize on an early lead against Franklin Academy. They fell just short of the Patriots by a score of 3-2 on Friday.

Wynterlee Glenn spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up 15 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Falls Lake saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Reagan Yancey, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Falls Lake's loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 9-10. As for East Wake Academy, they now have a losing record of 5-6.

East Wake Academy might still be hurting after the 10-0 defeat they got from Falls Lake in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
