Soccer Game Preview: Garces Memorial vs. San Joaquin Memorial

The Garces Memorial Rams will venture away from home to challenge the San Joaquin Memorial Panthers at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Garces Memorial's offense has struggled lately (the team hasn't scored more than a single goal for eight straight games), a trend the team is no doubt ready to end.

Garces Memorial fell victim to Centennial and their airtight defense on Thursday. They took a 2-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Golden Hawks.

Meanwhile, San Joaquin Memorial kept a clean sheet against Sunnyside on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 1-0 victory over the Wildcats. The win was all the more spectacular given the Panthers' disadvantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 587th, while the Wildcats are ranked 128th).

San Joaquin Memorial's one-goal win came courtesy of Diego Heredia, who's now up to four this season.

The victory made it two in a row for San Joaquin Memorial and bumps their season record up to 6-8-1. As for Garces Memorial, their loss dropped their record down to 4-6-4.

Garces Memorial was able to grind out a solid win over San Joaquin Memorial in their previous matchup back in January of 2023, winning 2-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Garces Memorial since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
