Football Recap: Steele Piles Up the Points Against East Central

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Steele). They claimed a resounding 49-0 win over the East Central Hornets. Given the Knights' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 56th, while the Hornets are ranked 391st) , the win on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.

A big part of Steele's victory came down to the chemistry between DJ Green and his top target Micah Sheeler. Green threw for 191 yards and three touchdowns while completing 72.2% of his passes while Sheeler picked up 122 receiving yards and a pair of scores. Sheeler showed off some serious burst, cutting upfield on a catch for 55 yards. Marshall Kenner was in the mix too, providing Steele with two TDs.

Steele's run defense was locked in: East Central could only muster 1.2 yards per carry. The team can thank Julian Hugo for the heroic effort on defense: he. Steele's ground attack was stronger, having averaged 5.3.

The win made it two in a row for Steele and bumps their season record up to 5-1. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 48.5 points over those games. As for East Central, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-5.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Steele is set to challenge their familiar foe Judson at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. That contest will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Jonathan Hatton and Kayden Graham. Meanwhile, East Central will face off against rival San Marcos at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
