Baseball Recap: Lordstown Comes Up Short

Lordstown extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 20 on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 0-11 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 9-8 heartbreaker at the hands of the Chalker Wildcats. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Red Devils of the 11-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

As for Chalker, their victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 3-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win they have posted since May 4, 2024.

For Chalker's part, Ryan Herdman made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single hit and allowed only two earned runs while striking out 11 over 4.1 innings pitched. Those 11 strikeouts gave Herdman a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That double marked the first that he has hit this season.

In other batting news, Chalker let Zach Pack and Daniel Kellar run wild. Pack went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, four runs, and two RBI, while Kellar went a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. Pack is becoming a predictor of Chalker's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 0-6 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Bobby Prowitt, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lordstown will welcome Mathews at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Chalker, they will host Bristol at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
