Softball Game Preview: North Rockland Raiders vs. Nyack Red Hawks

North Rockland is on a six-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Nyack is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Raiders will welcome the Red Hawks at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday.

North Rockland is headed into their home opener looking to turn things around after starting their season on the road. They lost 7-1 to White Plains last Tuesday.

Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Nyack ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-4 victory over John Jay. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Red Hawks have posted since May 8, 2024.

Haley Serrano spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up nine Ks.

On the hitting side, Nyack got a big performance out of Eliana Katz, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Maeve O'Donnell, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Katz wasn't the only one making solid contact: Nyack kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive contests.

North Rockland beat Nyack 6-1 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Will the Raiders repeat their success, or do the Red Hawks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
