Baseball Recap: Oak Hill Takes a Loss

Oak Hill had lost three straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 5-13 to make it four. They fell 11-7 to the Nicholas County Grizzlies. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Grizzlies this season, with their most recent loss being a 15-2 defeat last Wednesday.

Will McGraw was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Caleb Compton, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

As for Nicholas County, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games.

On Nicholas County's side, Braden Brown was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, Brown posted two strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ira Mylott, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. He has become a key player for Nicholas County: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 3-7 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Caleb Burns, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

Coming up, Oak Hill is taking a road trip to square off against Woodrow Wilson at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Flying Eagles will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Red Devils surely won't give up without a fight. Nicholas County has already played their next game (against Shady Spring), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
