Softball Recap: Niles Comes Up Short

Niles extended their losing streak to nine on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 3-11 in the process. They lost 12-5 to the Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger Saints. The Vikings were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Saints apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

As for Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-7. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by six runs or more this season.

For Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger's part, Mackenzie Nees was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with three runs, one double, and one RBI. That's the most runs Nees has posted since back in May of 2024. Abby Gillespie was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Coming up, Niles will take on Kalamazoo Central at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger, they will square off against Fort Wayne Northrop at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
