Basketball Recap: San Ysidro Comes Up Short

San Ysidro was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their tenth straight loss. They took a blow against the Otay Ranch Mustangs, falling 78-47. The Cougars lost against the Mustangs in their previous head to head back in January of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was even wider than the 54-46 score last time.

San Ysidro's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Edgar Bernal, who posted ten points and three blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Miranda, who had ten points.

Otay Ranch's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Johann Omae led the charge by going 9 of 13 en route to 22 points in addition to seven boards and four steals. Omae's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Nyno Lopez, who went 8 for 10 on his way to 20 points.

San Ysidro's loss dropped their record down to 2-22. As for Otay Ranch, with the victory, they broke their six-game losing streak and moved their record to 7-18.

San Ysidro will head out to challenge Bonita Vista at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Otay Ranch, they will challenge Mar Vista at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Mar Vista is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 63.2 points per game this season.
