Baseball Recap: Okawville Takes a Loss

Okawville had lost eight straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 1-11 to make it nine. They came up short against the Wesclin Warriors, falling 14-4. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Warriors this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 6-1 on Tuesday.

Okawville saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Grant Moody, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one run. John Schaller also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

As for Wesclin, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 5-10. That ten run margin sets a new team best for them this season.

On Wesclin's side, Ayden Peterson made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Those eight strikeouts gave Peterson a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Wesclin got a massive performance out of Reese Kohlbrecher, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, four runs, and one double. Those three hits gave Kohlbrecher a new career-high. Jacob Klein was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Okawville will face off against Waltonville at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Spartans' pitching crew has only allowed 3.3 runs per game this season, so the Rockets' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Wesclin, they will square off against Valmeyer at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
